Chatelain, Eugène-Pierre-Amabile

   political figure, writer

   Born in Paris, Eugène-Pierre-Amabile Chatelain, who worked as a chaser, took part in the revolution of 1848 and was deported in 1851 because of his opposition to napoléon III. Affiliated with the First International, he was a member of the Central Republican Committee of the arrondissements (zones) of Paris after September 4, 1870 (see commune) and took part in the fighting of the Bloody Week of May 22-28, 1871. Taking refuge in Jersey and then London, he was condemned to deportation for contempt of court (1874). After the amnesty of 1880 Chatelain became the editor of the revue Le Coup de feu. He is also the author of several collections of poems.
